FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:

REGENT UNIVERSITY FILM SCHOOL ANNOUNCES PARTNERSHIP WITH TWENTIETH CENTURY FOX FOR PRODUCTION OF C.S. LEWIS’ THE LAST BATTLE

Virginia Beach, VA – December 4, 2015 – Regent University’s School of Communication and the Arts (SCA) will be partnering with Twentieth Century Fox for the 2019 film adaptation of C.S. Lewis’ climactic conclusion to the Chronicles of Narnia series, The Last Battle.

This partnership came about through administrative meetings with film producer Mark Johnson (The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian) following Regent representatives’ initial networking with Fox location scouts exploring the Hampton Roads area for potential shoot sites for the film.

Regent faculty and students will be appointed to technical as well as creative positions in Fox’s second unit for the production. Graduate and select undergraduate film and theater students are being encouraged to attend interest meetings hosted by Fox representatives and creative staff in downtown Norfolk.

Andy Germaine, chair of the Film and Television department for the SCA, said, “This is one of the most thrilling ventures we’ve been a part of in our program. I’m delighted to be working with Fox on this, bringing the light of Christ into the professional world of modern cinema.”

“Though plans are still tentative of course, I am so excited to be able to offer this incredible internship experience to our students,” Germaine also said. “We have some of the best filmmakers here and I want to allow them the opportunity to become Christian leaders to change the world.”

Jonathan Lewis (’15, B.A. Cinema-Television), an outstanding alumnus of Regent’s undergraduate film program, has already been hired for the position of first assistant camera.

“I’m beyond excited to be part of the crew,” Lewis said. “The Last Battle is such an iconic book that really wraps up the Narnia series—it’s a story of ultimate redemption that really mirrors the book of Revelation and the consummation of history with the return of Jesus. It’s going to be a great film and it’ll be fantastic to see Regent helping to bring it to life.”

Production for the second unit is set to begin in October 2017.
